Interior door handle surround trims for VB VC VH VK VL Commodore

VB–VL Commodore Interior Restoration: Replacing Broken Trim Parts

VB to VL Commodore interiors are now 40 years old. Plastics have been baked by decades of Australian sun, and small trim pieces crack, fade or disappear. They're small parts, but a missing screw cover or cracked surround is the first thing you notice when you open the door.

Good second-hand trims are getting hard to find, and the ones at the wreckers are usually as old and brittle as yours. Here are the parts that fail most often and how to replace them.

Door handle surrounds

The surrounds behind the interior door handles take a hit every time the door is opened, and the old plastic cracks at the mounting points. Our door handle surrounds come in a 4-pack to do every door at once, for VB, VC, VH, VK and VL.

Escutcheon (lock slide) surrounds

The surrounds around the door lock slides crack and fade the same way. Replace them at the same time as the handle surrounds so the colour and finish match: escutcheon lock slide surrounds, 4-pack.

Console screw covers

The little covers over the centre console screws are almost always missing. A new set of console screw covers is a cheap, quick fix that makes the console look finished again.

Dash speaker grills

The dash-top speaker grill bakes in the sun more than anything else in the car, so many are cracked or warped. We make a factory-style replacement for VB to VK, plus versions that hold a GPS antenna for SAAS, Haltech or Holdcom systems – see where to mount a GPS speedo antenna.

Clock delete plate

Dead dash clocks are common, and a lot of builders remove the clock when fitting new gauges. A clock delete blanking plate for the VB, VC and VH tidies up the hole.

Restoration tips

  • Do it all at once. Doing every door in one go keeps the finish consistent.
  • Go slowly with old plastic. Original trims are brittle. Warm the cabin on a sunny day before prying anything off, and use plastic trim tools, not a screwdriver.
  • Clean before you fit. Wipe the door card and mounting points so the new part sits flush.
  • Keep the originals. Even broken, they're useful as patterns if you ever need something made.

Why 3D printed?

These parts are designed by us to fit the factory mounting points and printed in Australia from engineering-grade materials such as ASA, which handles heat and UV far better than standard printing plastics. Read more in our 3D printed car parts guide.
