HJ-WB Holden GTS pilot light cluster installed in the clock position

HJ–WB Holden GTS Dash: Indicator & Warning Lights for Aftermarket Gauges

The GTS dash fascia is one of the most popular upgrades for HJ, HX, HZ and WB Holdens. Lots of Kingswoods, utes and panel vans now run an original or reproduction GTS dash, often with modern aftermarket gauges. But there's a catch most people only find when they turn the key.

The problem: the indicators were in the gauges

In the factory GTS dash, the turn signal and high beam indicators are built into the speedo and tacho. Most aftermarket gauges don't have them. Swap the gauges and you lose your blinkers and high beam light – which is a roadworthy problem as well as an annoyance.

There is a second issue. Reproduction GTS fascias come with the brake and battery warning windows, globe mounts and lenses, but no globes, sockets or wiring, so those lights don't work either.

The common fixes

  • Drill the fascia for pilot lights. It works, but it cuts into a dash that is expensive to replace, and the lights are often hidden behind the steering wheel.
  • Gauges with built-in indicators. Some aftermarket gauges have them, but it limits your choice of gauge.
  • Use the clock hole. The GTS dash has a clock position that many builders don't use. It's in clear view, even with a smaller sports wheel, and using it needs no cutting.

Our solution: the GTS pilot light cluster

We designed the HJ–WB GTS Dash Pilot Light Cluster to screw straight into the clock position. It includes:

  • Four 12V 14mm LED pilot lights: left and right indicators, high beam and hand brake
  • T5 LED globes and sockets for the fascia's brake fail and battery charge warning windows
  • A battery warning light with a built-in resistor, so the alternator charge circuit works properly
  • Pre-wiring to an 8-way Deutsch DT connector
  • Printed instructions, including how to convert a non-GTS (Kingswood) dash loom

If your car used a single combined brake fail and hand brake light, the cluster lets you split them into two separate warnings.

Wiring overview

Pin Circuit Wire colour
1 Ignition ON Pink
2 Ground Black
3 Brake fail warning Tan
4 Battery charge warning Brown
5 Hand brake Yellow
6 High beam Light green
7 Left indicator Light blue
8 Right indicator Dark blue

On a Kingswood (non-GTS) dash the factory pilot light cluster uses a 10-way plug, so the loom needs rewiring to the Deutsch connector. The instructions cover this.

Test before you assemble

  1. Plug the cluster in with the fascia off.
  2. Turn the key to ON – the battery light should come on.
  3. Check both indicators, high beam and hand brake.
  4. Turn to START – the brake fail light should light.
  5. Mount the cluster in the clock hole with the turn signals at the top, then refit the fascia.

You'll need to be comfortable removing the instrument cluster and doing automotive wiring. If not, an auto electrician can fit it quickly.

Bare kit or pre-wired?

The pre-wired kit is plug-in ready. If you'd rather supply your own lights and wiring, the bare kit gives you the printed cluster to build up yourself. Both are designed and made in Australia.
