Nissan Skyline, Silvia, 180SX and 300ZX shifter and clutch parts interchange by chassis number

Skyline, Silvia, 180SX & 300ZX: Which Shifter and Clutch Parts Are Actually Shared?

Ask around about Nissan parts and you'll hear that the Skyline, Silvia, 180SX and 300ZX all share the same bits. Some do. But Nissan made running changes all through the 80s and 90s, so two cars with the same engine can still need different part numbers. We looked up real chassis (frame) numbers in Nissan's Japanese parts catalogue to sort out what's shared and what isn't.

First: which gearbox does your car have?

Most of the differences come down to the gearbox. These are the codes Nissan's catalogue lists for each manual car we checked:

Car Gearbox
Silvia S14 SR20DE / SR20DET FS5W71C 5-speed
Silvia S15 Spec S (SR20DE) FS5W71C 5-speed
Silvia S15 Spec R (SR20DET) FS6R92A 6-speed
Skyline R33 GTS25t (RB25DET) FS5R30A 5-speed
Skyline R34 25GT / GT (RB25DE / RB20DE) FS5W71C 5-speed
Skyline R34 GT-t (RB25DET) FS5R30A 5-speed
Skyline R32 & R33 GT-R (RB26DETT) FS5R30A 5-speed, 4WD
Skyline R34 GT-R (RB26DETT) Getrag 6-speed
Fairlady Z / 300ZX Z32 (VG30DE) RS5R30A 5-speed

Shifter bushes and boots: what's shared

The shifter bush and boot are the parts that wear and cause a sloppy, rattly gear lever. Here's what Nissan lists:

Car Control lever bush Boot Extras
S14 Silvia (08/1994 on) 32861-H7301 32862-V5002 Socket 32870-V5003
180SX SR20DET (RPS13, 1991–96) 32861-H7301 32862-05U00 (replaces V5001) Socket 32870-V5003
R34 GT-t / GT / 25GT 5-speed 32861-H7301 32862-V5002 –
R33 GTS25t RB25DET (11/1994 on) 32861-01G00 32862-V5002 –
R32 GT-R (BNR32) 32861-05U00 32862-05U00 Seat 32875-V5002
S15 Spec R 6-speed 32861-05U00 32862-89F10 –
R34 GT-R 6-speed (BNR34) 32861-H7301 + 2 × 32274-AA400 32862-AA400 / AA401 (no longer available) –

What this tells you:

  • The 32861-H7301 bush really is shared across a lot of cars: S14, 180SX and every R34, including the GT-R. That's where the “it's all the same” idea comes from.
  • But the R33 GTS25t uses a different bush (32861-01G00), and the R32 GT-R and S15 Spec R use 32861-05U00. Fit the wrong one and the lever won't sit right.
  • Boots split three ways: V5002 for the S14, late R33 and R34; 05U00 for the 180SX and R32 GT-R; and 89F10 for the S15 Spec R. Early R33s (before 11/1994) used an older boot again.
  • The S15 Spec S isn't one car as far as shifter parts go. The catalogue shows two different bush and boot combinations depending on spec, so check your chassis number.

Clutch master cylinder kits: what's shared

Almost all of these cars use a 5/8" (15.87 mm) Nabco clutch master cylinder, but the same bore doesn't mean the same kit. Nissan lists four different piston kits:

Piston kit Fits
30611-AA025 (replaces 21U25) R33 & R34 RB20 / RB25 manual, S15 Spec S & Spec R built 01/1999–08/2000
30611-2T025 (replaces 52F25) S14 SR20DE / SR20DET, 180SX RPS13 SR20DET
30611-10V27 (replaces 71L25, 30P27, 0H625) R32 RB20 manual and S13 CA18 to 11/1990, Z32 300ZX VG30DE non-turbo 07/1989–09/1993
30611-05U25 R32, R33 and R34 GT-R (RB26DETT)

So the S14 and S15 don't share a master cylinder kit, even though they're both SR20DET Silvias. Meanwhile the non-turbo 300ZX shares its kit with the R32 GTS-t and S13. Later S15s (from 06/2001) moved to yet another kit, 30611-5N325.

R32 GT-R: push or pull clutch?

The R32 GT-R changed from a push-type to a pull-type clutch in February 1993. Nissan's catalogue lists slave cylinder kit 30621-05U25 up to 1993-02, then 30621-12U25 (now 30621-12U26) from 1993-02. The R33 and R34 GT-R use the same 12U26 pull-type kit. The master cylinder kit, 30611-05U25, is the same on all three.

What about the 300ZX Z32?

The Z32 is the odd one out. It uses its own RS5R30A gearbox, and Nissan's vehicle catalogue doesn't break down its shifter bushes, so we can't confirm that any Skyline or Silvia shifter parts fit. On the clutch side:

  • The non-turbo Z32 (VG30DE) master cylinder kit 30611-30P25 was replaced by 30P27, then 0H625, and is now 30611-10V27, the same kit as the R32 GTS-t and S13.
  • The twin turbo (VG30DETT) used 30611-40P25, which Nissan no longer supplies.
  • Both share slave cylinder kit 30621-30P25, now replaced by 30621-65J25.

The bottom line

Lots of Nissan parts are shared, but not as many as the forums suggest, and running changes mean the build date matters as much as the model. The safest way to get the right part is to check it against your chassis number, which is exactly what we do before we pack your order.

Get the right parts in one box

We sell these genuine Nissan parts as kits matched to your chassis, with free tracked shipping Australia-wide from Japan.
