Importing Car Parts from Japan

Looking for a part that's hard to find outside Japan? EMDAWG JDM is based in Japan and Australia, so we can source car parts and other products in Japan and ship them to you in Australia or New Zealand.

What we can import

  • Genuine OEM parts for Japanese cars – Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Suzuki, Daihatsu and more
  • Used and hard-to-find JDM parts from Japanese auctions and parts stores
  • Aftermarket JDM parts and accessories
  • Collectables such as diecast models – see our importing reviews

We don't import whole cars. Some items can't be sent overseas (for example airbags, batteries and fluids) – we'll let you know if your item is one of them.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need. Email us the part name, part number or a link, plus your car's make, model and year, and whether you're in Australia or New Zealand.
  2. We find it and quote. We check availability and condition and send you a quote for the item, shipping and our fees before you pay anything.
  3. You approve and pay. Once you're happy with the quote, we buy the item for you.
  4. We check, pack and ship. We inspect the item, pack it securely, confirm the final shipping cost with you, and send it to your door with tracking.

Pricing – no hidden fees

Every quote lists each of these separately, so you can see exactly what you're paying for:

  • The item: the price in Japan, plus shipping within Japan to us, charged at what we actually pay.
  • Our service fee: 15% of the item price, minimum A$35. This covers finding the part, checking fitment, buying it and inspecting it.
  • Packing & handling: A$10 per box for standard parcels, covering boxes, padding and tape so your parts arrive safely. Large or long items are A$45 per box – bumpers, side skirts, spoilers and wings, exhausts, wheels, and anything over 1 metre long or that needs a custom-built box – as they take extra materials and time to pack properly.
  • International shipping: the carrier's price for your box using our business accounts with Japan Post, ECMS Express, DHL and UPS (we compare carriers and use the cheapest suitable one), plus 10% to cover booking, customs paperwork and any rate or fuel surcharge changes between quoting and dispatch.
  • Optional extras, at cost: transit insurance for the full value of your item (usually around 1% of the value – recommended for anything valuable or fragile) and signature on delivery (around A$3). We'll offer these in your quote.

Currency: yen prices are converted to Australian dollars at the day's exchange rate plus a 3% currency buffer, which covers exchange rate changes and payment fees between quoting and buying. You can also pay in yen.

Final shipping cost: shipping in your quote is based on the expected box size and weight. Once your item arrives and is packed, we measure it and confirm the final shipping price with you before booking. If it's changed, we tell you first – you only pay the difference (or get it back). Quotes are based on that day's rates, so if payment is delayed, shipping may need to be re-quoted.

Our import service is provided by Rees Solutions, our Japan-based partner business run by the Emdawg team. Your quote and invoice come from Rees Solutions, and no GST is added to our service fee or packing charge.

Example: a part that costs ¥30,000 in Japan (about A$278) has a service fee of about A$41.70, plus A$10 packing and shipping. A ¥5,000 part (about A$46) has the minimum fee of A$35.

Our shipping rates save you money. DHL's published 2026 rate for an 18 kg box from Japan to Australia is over ¥100,000 including fuel surcharge. With our business rates, the same 18 kg box to Melbourne cost ¥22,222 – about ¥24,400 (around A$225) including our 10%.

Good to know

  • Import duty and GST: for orders up to A$1,000 there's normally nothing extra to pay when it arrives in Australia. Over A$1,000, Australian GST (10%), any import duty and customs processing charges apply and are paid by you on delivery. New Zealand has similar rules at NZ$1,000. We'll flag this in your quote.
  • Delivery time depends on where the item is sourced and the shipping method – we'll give you an estimate in your quote.
  • Used parts are sold as described in the quote. Please check fitment with us before you buy.
  • Buying several items? We combine and repack them into one box where possible to save on shipping.
