Suzuki Jimny JB74 and JB64 gauge pod guide: water temperature, oil pressure, boost and volt gauges

Suzuki Jimny JB74 & JB64 Gauge Pod: Which Gauges to Add and Why

The 2019-on Suzuki Jimny is a brilliant little off-roader, but its dash gives you very little information. There's no oil pressure gauge, a coolant temperature display that tells you very little, and nothing for boost on the turbo JB64. If you tour, tow a small trailer or wheel your Jimny hard, a couple of proper gauges are one of the most useful upgrades you can make.

JB74 vs JB64: what's different?

  • JB74 (Jimny / Jimny Sierra): the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol sold in Australia and New Zealand.
  • JB64: the Japanese-market kei car Jimny with a 660 cc turbocharged engine. Many are now privately imported.

The interiors share the same A-pillar layout, so the same pillar pod suits both. What changes is which gauges make sense.

The best gauges for a Jimny

Water temperature (both models)

The most useful gauge on any Jimny. Low-range crawling on a hot day, sand driving with low tyre pressures and long climbs all load the cooling system. A real temperature reading lets you see a problem coming instead of finding out when a warning light comes on. See our SAAS 52 mm water temperature gauge.

Oil pressure (both models)

Small engines work hard, often at high RPM. An oil pressure gauge gives early warning of low oil, a failing pump or oil starvation on steep side slopes.

Boost (JB64 turbo)

On the turbocharged JB64, a boost gauge shows whether the turbo is making the pressure it should. That's especially useful if you've added a tune, an intake or an intercooler upgrade.

Volts (touring setups)

Running a fridge, lights or a dual-battery system? A volt gauge shows whether your alternator and DC-DC charger are keeping up.

Why a full replacement pillar pod?

Universal stick-on pods look like an afterthought in the Jimny's boxy cabin. The SAAS Jimny dual gauge pillar pod replaces the factory A-pillar trim entirely:

  • It's a one-piece ABS moulding in an OEM-style light grey, so it looks factory.
  • It holds two 52 mm gauges set close to the pillar, so they don't block your view.
  • It's made in Melbourne, Australia.

Wiring tips

  • Use an ignition-switched circuit for gauge power. An add-a-fuse in the interior fuse box is the tidiest method.
  • Earth each gauge to a solid chassis point, not to a painted bracket.
  • Connect the gauge illumination wire to the parking-light circuit so the gauges dim with the dash at night.
  • For the water temperature sender, an inline radiator hose adaptor avoids drilling into the engine. Measure your hose's inside diameter first.

FAQ

Does the pod fit the 5-door Jimny?

The pod is designed for the 2019-on Jimny A-pillar. If you have a different variant, send us your model and we'll confirm fitment before you order.

Can I see oil pressure through the OBD port instead?

Some OBD displays can show coolant temperature, but most can't show oil pressure, because the factory engine has a pressure switch rather than a sender. A dedicated gauge and sender is the reliable option.

Importing a JB64 from Japan?

We can source genuine Suzuki parts for Japanese-market Jimnys directly from Japan. See our Japan parts sourcing service.
